LHC’s Verdict for Restoration of Facebook Accessibility
Lahore High Court on Monday ordered PTA authorities for restoration of Facebook accessibility, almost two weeks after putting barricade on the well-liked social networking website in all areas of Pakistan due to blasphemous publication of caricatures.
Justice Ejaz Chaudhry of the Lahore High Court issued the orders, undoing a May 19 order on the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) to obstruct Facebook over “blasphemous drawings of Prophet Mohammed on the website.”

A grouping of Islamic lawyers appealed the Lahore court, which had ordered to put barricade on Facebook till May 31 and the PTA then banned YouTube and limited access to other websites, along with Wikipedia.
Chaudhry on Monday requested the government to develop such technological system to block access to “sacrilegious” stuff on the Internet, which he supposed was before now in set in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
“It is the government’s job to take care of such things, which spark resentment among the people and bring them onto the streets. They should take steps to block any blasphemous content on the Internet,” Chaudhry held.
The court Monday delayed until June 15 the appeals from the Islamic lawyers. Mudassir Hussain, a spokesperson from the information technology office, informed the court that all web-links to “blasphemous” material on the Internet would be barred in Pakistan.
