The operation has been declared successful. Assailants as well as some security personnel including high profile army officers are among the dead. Martyrdom is the most precious gift for a soldier, but a loss of this sum and vulnerability of highest value target reveals severe doziness if not the lack of preparedness.
Sunday morning 11th October 2009, siege ends, army frees around 30 hostages, nine attackers, three hostages and two commandos killed in an unprecedented GHQ operation. One alleged mastermind of several high profile terror attacks-Aqeel Nick Name Dr. Usman captured injured, news agencies reported.
The ugly incident can easily be described as an attack on the integrity and sovereignty of the nuclear armed powerful Muslim state. The occurrence not only cost several precious lives but also shown a serious threat to the measures government is taking against terrorists in the country.
Although Swat operation and killing of TTP’s top leadership put a halt on the terrorist activities for a while, it seems that the group has reorganised or re-emerged with more power and force. It is also believed that some ghost agents are acting on their behalf. These may be those foreign elements that are responsible for enabling these terrorist organisations for high profile terrorist activities of this sum and energy and don’t want their cause and activities to be diminished even for a while.
Pakistan is paying a heavy price in the so called war on terror. Swat operation revealed a lot to ponder for our decision makers and intelligence agencies. Occupying terrorists-mostly believed to be unpolished and uneducated, were using sophisticated and well articulated underground tunnel systems-a height of civil engineering and structure logic, beyond capabilities of TTP, reveals involvement of big players.
In fact Mehsoods and TTPs are merely the runners for double A (America and Alqaeda) having same designs and agenda. History though not so old, divulges that the presence of America in any region has only served in pitching people against the people. The sole outcome of their presence is the destabilization of the area and looting the resources of that territory.
The incident stresses radical improvement of the security agencies in their capability and tactics. Blast in UN’s World Food Program building using a security personnel’s uniform-a trade mark of so called Alqaeda, should have been given weight and ample consideration. The cat-mouse game of Americaand Alqaeda in destabilizing Iraq and surrounding region should have been understood and lessons learnt should be applied to prevent further spreading of chaos and destabilization.
Judicial system should also be made efficient and bold enough to make brave decisions. But not so bold to do decisions like few months back, when two terrorists –sentenced by anti terrorism court 10 years ago in French Engineers killing case were released by Sindh High Court. Hundreds of doctors and civil servants were killed by known banned groups in recent past but were never punished accordingly.
In fact there are number of blunders by our judicial and security services by not crippling those elements regularly killing our guests from Iran, China and France etc. Attack on the Sri-Lankan team was reportedly executed by same fanatics of banned SSP and LeJ. These loosely bound freelance terrorists had been reportedly used by Hindi and Saudi agencies to safeguard their interests in the region.
It is the time that these basically the ideological brothers of Taliban and so called Alqaeda should be scrutinize from every level of society. Also those having the soft corners for these orgs must be identified and monitored at every level to prevent their boarding lodging and any leakage of information.
It must be noted that these hate machines are surviving because they are cleverly using the name of Islam for their dark activities and thus recruiting innocent and Islam loving people for their filthy agendas. It’s imperative that a counter awareness movement should be launched. This should equally be participated by scholars and learned community members from all over the country. Women and youth must also play their due role in this awareness and counter terrorism movement.
The scale of problem demands an all out strategy in which Government and people of Pakistan have to be hand in hand to help our security agencies and army in getting rid of evil designs of double AA(America & Alqaeda). We must be vigilant and helpful in any case of extraordinary situations. Together and united Pakistanis will be able to safeguard their dignity and beloved homeland from threats of inside and outside the country.
