PCB Will Appraise Players’ Retributions: Ijaz Butt
The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) chairman, Ijaz Butt declared on Monday to evaluate fines and proscription imposed on seven apex players after getting details from mediator, Justice retired Irfan Qadir. PCB head working official, Wasim Bari showed an investigation statement on public team’s presentation on the visit of Australia to the Senate’s standing commission which convened here on Monday.
“The committee meeting was very constructive and we assured them on reviewing the penalties on the players but after getting the arbitrator’s report,” PCB chairman, Ijaz Butt informed reporters. Ex- captains, Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf were barred indefinitely on allegations of “infighting which resulted in a negative influence on the team.”
Shoaib Malik and Rana Naved-ul Hasan were proscribed for one year and charged with heavy fine of two million rupees (24,000 dollars) each for disciplinary break. Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain, Shahid Afridi and Kamran Akmal were charged with fine of three million rupees (35,000 dollars) each and positioned on trial for six months. Umar Akmal was panelized with fine of two million rupees.
The penalties came after an appraisal board inspected Pakistan’s visits of the United Arab Emirates, Australia and New Zealand from November 2009 to February 2010. Pakistan defeated badly in all three Tests, five one-day and a Twenty20 in Australia, forcing the PCB to probe into the defeats. Yousuf retired from cricket in remonstration, but the other players filed appeals with the PCB-appointed court. Butt repeated his position on match-fixing, persisting there had been no unlawful activity regardless of charges over Pakistan’s beat in January’s Sydney Test.
