Hosts presented Queen’s Baton Relay at Wagha Border

The torch of XIX Commonwealth Games, Queen’s Baton Relay, has been presented to host Indian nation among a conspicuous and luminous ceremonial event at Wagha Border on early Friday.

Arif Hassan, Pakistan Olympic Association President,  Shaukat Javed, Pakistan Baseball Federation President and other administrators hailed the delegation at the airport. Ajay Choutala presented the Queen’s Baton relay to the Pakistani Olympic leader with a memo of harmony. Harsh safety arrangements were made on this juncture.

Ajay Choutala, giving it to the Pakistani chief, said they came with the memo of love and harmony. “Those problems which could not be solved during wars, can easily be solved on sports grounds,” he said.

Ajay added he demanded the Pakistani natives to visit India to enjoy the Commonwealth Games. “Both the governments of India and Pakistan should realize this and should follow liberal policies towards friendship,” he said.

 

Ajay Choutala added he would demand his administration to give flexibility in visa policy to the Pakistani guests. Ajay expected, “Both nations can come close through sports activities and two sports, cricket and Kabaddi, are more popular in both countries”.

Getting the Queen’s Baton, the POA head added, “This is a moment of prestige and honour for me as a Pakistani and we feel proud in receiving the Queen’s baton.”

He added that POA will organize a dinner party on Thursday at neighboring hotel where it will present to the Punjab chief minister as the chief of the province. “The Queen’s Baton will return to India on the morning of 25th through Wagha border to Indian counterpart Suresh Kalmadi,” he added.

The torch has particularly been planned on an 18 karat gold leaf, set on top of the torch. The relay, the greatest of all the earlier editions, is covering a space of 170,000 km during its stopover to 71 contributing nations crosswise the globe. In total, it will take almost 340 days to arrive at its destination.

The Commonwealth Games XIX will be held in Delhi from October 3-14. Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were the principal guest of the official dinner on June 24 while Punjab Governor Salmaan Taseer would be the guest of honor during the shift of the torch to the Indian Olympics Association head on 25th June.
