Home Trading Terminal
Designed for overworked Wallstreet traders, Allen Liu designed this home trading terminal to ease the infusion of work into home life. While an admirable effort, if you’re working, you’re working regardless of where you are and I don’t see this interface holding up well against an information-packed, 4 screen terminal. If that’s not enough, Allen completely failed to put in a “Private Browsing” button for those lonely, late-night trading sessions that last for hours.

Freshness Indicator

Designed by Lee Sharsha. These days, with so many other things to think about, trying to keep track of food which only stays fresh for a certain number of days can be difficult. The Freshness Indicator changes colour to remind users of the use-by date.
The Freshness Indicator is made primarily of e-paper and is attached to a consumable product with a loop of elastic-like cord. The timer is pressed when the product is first bought, with the number of presses equalling how many days the product is expected to stay fresh. Five presses, for example, would equal five days. Over the course of those five days, the indicator changes from green to red, with green symbolising fresh and red symbolising expiry. This makes it very easy to see if a product is in danger of expiring, and also makes choosing which of any similar products should be consumed soonest if they have been bought at different times. As well as the day-counting function of the Freshness Indicator button, the cord length can be adjusted and locked so it can be fixed on food or food packaging (boxed, bagged or bottled).

Your own bike lane!

The LightLane is a concept design that uses lasers to project an illuminated bike lane all around you wherever you go. It keeps you visible to cars and it keeps you safe. Until all cities put in bike lanes for cyclist safety, we might have to rely on clever devices like this to stay safe.

New Age Sewing Machine

The latest piece of tech in the war on grandmas has gotta be Brother’s Quattro 6000D sewing machine, a beastly machine with specs that will help even the most diligent granny patch up those quilts or ripped teddies more efficiently.

Brother’s “InnovEye” and “Up-Close Viewer” technology places a camera right next to the needle to give the user a birds-eye view on the LCD to allow perfect placement before stitching. Advanced embroidery features and built-in tutorials should certainly mitigate any mishaps, and should you get the urge to plug every flash drive you own into it, there are 3 USB ports.
